Community and machinery: how does the world work? The smallest units of life have machines making them work, proteins moving around in ways biophysics is trying to explain. Can things part of something bigger know what the bigger thing is? Do we? Is the lack of something bigger or agreement on what the bigger thing is why we fight amongst ourselves?

What's the difference between innovation and invention? Invention is creativity manifested, from imagination to reality. Innovation is defined as the practical implementation of ideas that result in the introduction of new goods/services or improvement in offering goods/services. I imagine,, that the trend towards the practical is driven by profit, very much disproving the idea that capitalism breeds creativity. It breeds innovation, but wow, how short-sighted man is to go towards profit and away from what genuinely makes humans unique amongst Earth's species-- the way we interact with the environment. Aristotle and pretty much all the male philosophers we read in Contemporary Civilizations (but creds to Aristotle for inspiring them all) have this dumb ass notion of human exceptionalism coming from communication. Perhaps they never took any time to notice their surroundings or study animals, because surely they would have seen flocks of birds flying or ants working together to pilfer crumbs from the floor. An argument could be made that written language is what distinguishes us? but I think that comes as a result of our specific way of interacting with the environment. Did we make tools that happened to be able to write, or did we make tools to write? Which came first, the thought I should write something down or the creation of a thing that could be used to write?

This is why I wanted to major in evolutionary biology of the human species, because I think so much is connected/should be connected more, prehistory bullshit and the patchwork of science's history we learn from textbooks today. My passion for science was really a philosophical yearning to know why we are. What ways have we understood the world and what ways should we understand the world? People, primarily the people who benefit from the established paradigms in science & the larger political social world as it's all connected, are quite happy with the way things are. But not me, and not a good amount of people either. Revolution in science, philosophy, sociology, all the fields... I see it in our generation. Many great minds who have a sense for the future and can make it real... are inventors, not innovators.

What's the difference between magic and science? Is magic just science we don't understand yet?
Properties of magic: part of nature, unexplainable phenomena. It's not unexplainable due to detailed technicalities, there's something base about it... like instinct, except we sort of understand instinct now. Is magic a worldview? Can we explain the world not from science, but purely magical with the right paradigms and definitions?
Magic is doing more than what we think is possible-- is that the edge of science? a new way to perceive reality? What does looking at the world magically tell us that science cannot tell us? What are the benefits of new paradigms?
Topics to come back to: philosophy of magic/fantasy.... dimensionality of the world.... more science.
What's the deal with technology? Why do we make so much and how does us creating things that build upon each other take science further.... further to where? What? Does all technology serve the same purpose: do what we cannot? Would we know how to design something that violates the laws of physics? Are we finite creatures who can never build past the laws that bind the world as we experience it... our approach to quantum mechanics, pushing past the boundaries of what we know to be physically possible... so mathematically intricate to understand...
